The YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit I Rise Family Empowerment Program

A talented engineer, Avinash Rachmale serves as the president and CEO of Lakeshore Engineering in Detroit. Philanthropically inclined, Avinash Rachmale is involved with a number of organizations, including the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit, which provides a wide range of services for local children and their families.

One of the key programs at the organization is the I Rise Family Empowerment Program, which is designed to support working parents with career guidance and financial coaching. The program represents a partnership between the the Y and the United Way of Southeastern Michigan.

I Rise consists of three primary components. The first is personal coaching, which involves guidance with career development and life planning. The initial coaching session takes place over the phone and helps parents identify goals. Then, the coach checks in every other week to discuss progress toward those goals.

On a monthly basis, I Rise hosts informal forums designed to motivate parents by exposing them to inspirational speakers and other parents in the same situation. The event begins with a family dinner before children go to the Y to enjoy other programming. Each forum focuses on a different theme, from budgeting to preparing children for college.

The final component is a financial award for childcare. Based on the situation of each family, parents receive a subsidy for the childcare services available at the Y.
